Sunday at the Movies – The Golden Globes

The Golden Globes, hosted by the fabulous Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, are on today. In honor of this entertaining award show, for today’s Sunday at the Movies I’m talking about some of the big categories and the nominees.

Sadly, I actually haven’t watched many of the nominations, though the vast majority have all been on my list to watch since before they were released.  Clearly, after tonight’s winners are announced I’ll have a way to prioritize my list. So here are the nominees and my predicted winners:

Best Motion Picture, Drama

  • Boyhood
  • Foxcatcher
  • The Imitation Game
  • Selma
  • The Theory of Everything

I’ve only managed to see The Imitation Game which is why I’m including it as my predicted winner.  I’ve been wanted to see Selma and The Theory of Everything  and hopefully will be able to catch those before the Oscars.  I don’t know too much about Boyhood or Foxcatcher

Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy

  • Into the Woods
  • Birdman
  • The Grand Budapest Hotel
  • St. Vincent
  • Pride

I’ve see two of the five in this category (Into the Woods and The Grand Budapest Hotel).  I’ve been wanting to watch Birdman as I’m a big Michael Keaton fan, as well as St. Vincent because of Bill Murray.  But I don’t know too much about Pride.  I’m guessing the much talked about Birdman may take the Globe.

Best Animated Feature

  • The Lego Movie
  • How to Train Your Dragon 2
  • Big Hero 6
  • The Book of Life
  • The Boxtrolls

I’m quite embarrassed to admit I’ve only seen 1 of the 5. This category is generally my lifeline and I was so excited for each of these movies before they were released but life just didn’t let me make it to the theater to see these.  My prediction is a total shot int he dark but I’m gonna guess Big Hero 6 takes the award.

Best TV Series, Drama

  • Downton Abbey
  • The Affair
  • Game of Thrones
  • House of Cards
  • The Good Wife

If you know me at all, you know that no matter my thoughts on any of the shows you know I’ll be hoping for Game of Thrones to take the win (and I’m still a little upset that Peter Dinklage didn’t get a nomination for his performance last season).

Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy

  • Orange is the New Black
  • Girls
  • Jane the Virgin
  • Transparent
  • Silicon Valley

I was very pleasantly surprised with Jane the Virgin when I finally got around to watching it. I think it is probably a long shot for the win, but I’m hoping that adorable show gets a little more recognition (and maybe even a win for Gina Rodriguez for Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy).

So those are my predictions (although most are actually more like hopes than true predictions) for tonight’s Golden Globes. What are yours? And who do you want to win?
