Five Fandom Friday – New Year’s Fandom Resolutions

Five Fandom Fridays

It’s Friday. That means another edition of Five Fandom Friday from geeky bloggers all over thanks to the genius of Super Space Chick and The Nerdy Girlie. Today’s topic: New Year’s Fandom Resolutions. I make resolutions every year (some more successful than others), but I don’t think I’ve ever made any specific fandom resolutions So this week’s topic was very interesting to consider. After all, what exactly should a fandom resolution entail? Here’s what I’ve come up with:

Frames for Fandom Collections

I have some amazing prints (right now I’m specifically thinking of the collection of altered Haunted Mansion portraits that I have) and they really should be protected and on my wall. Lucky for me, I received a mat cutter for Christmas, so it’s time to put that bad boy to good use and get those prints on my wall. And I need to fill the empty frames that are all over my house.

How amazing is this print by Abraham Lopez?

More Cosplay

I have been collecting pieces for certain cosplay creations for years but never taken the next steps to fully realize the characters. I think it’s time in 2015 to take the next step. I’m no seamstress so it will require some significant help. But when people ask me if I dressed up for Comic Con, I really want to be able to say “Yes.”

Branch Out in the Convention Scene

You’ll get to hear a little more about this with the Fandom Friday on the 16th (Conventions I’ve Been To Or Wish TO Attend), but for now let’s just say I want to explore conventions outside of the Comic Con International umbrella. While I’m sure part of this has to do with the fact that I’m not sure I’ll be able to get into San Diego in 2015, another part is that I love all sorts of people and topics and it would be great to explore fandoms at conventions outside of California.

Catch Up with Geek and Sundry and others

gslogoWhen Felicia Day first launched her Geek and Sundry brand and YouTube channel, I was all over it. But then like it usually does, life got in the way. I tend to have a tough time keeping up on anything, but the point of many web series is to be in more digestible bits. I have an iPhone and unlimited data so there is no reason for me not to watch more content in those few brief moments here and there. Although I am a little scared because through Felicia’s content I tend to find more stuff I love and my time is already bursting….

Create Art Inspired by Fandoms

I plan to continue my goal of striving to make more art and what better way to be inspired than to look to my favorite fandoms. There are so many different aspects of the every fandom that I can use as my muse. Just think about Hellblazer and Constantine for a minute – now think dark, creepy, horror, and demons. There is so much I can do with that. The trick is doing it. And I want to strive to create works that I connect back to my geeky loves in some way or another , obvious or not.

And that’s my list of New Year’s Fandom Resolutions for Fandom Friday. What are your fandom resolutions? How often to you plan to post? Anyone plan to create great new link-ups? Read the resolutions of these other blogging ladies:

  1. I too need to get some frames for all of my fantastic art. However, I must say I am INSANELY jealous of your Haunted Mansion/Batman prints. It’s basically everything I have ever wanted in a piece of art. Happy 2015! These are great goals 🙂

  2. You should totally post photos once you you get your collection framed and displayed! I have so many things I need to display and love inspiration for doing so!
Good luck with your cosplaying! I actually did my first outfit last year so I’m definitely looking to expand in that arena as well 🙂

  3. Such great resolutions! I’m on the same page about framing art. I get so lazy about it but it doesn’t stop me for always purchasing more at conventions 🙂
